G2 & G Test Route Guide
DriveTest and the MTO do not publish official routes — the maps and steps below reflect roads commonly associated with tests at this east Ottawa centre based on the local road network and test-taker reports. Study aid only.
Belfast Rd to Ogilvie Rd (busy four-lane arterial, multiple lights) — lane discipline and signal compliance
St. Laurent Blvd — confident lane changes on a multi-lane corridor
Residential streets in the area — parallel park, 3-point turn, stop-sign compliance
Return via Canotek Rd
Key Skills to Practise
Belfast Rd lane positioning — stay centred in your lane on the wide industrial road; don't drift.
Ogilvie Rd light sequence — multiple signals close together; approach at the correct speed each time.
Residential maneuvers — parallel park within 30 cm, 3-point turn on a standard street width.
Note (late 2025): The G road test is temporarily modified and currently does not include highway driving at this centre. The highway section below describes the standard G test, for when it resumes.

Key Skills to Practise
Hwy 417 merge (G only) — short on-ramp from Belfast Rd; begin accelerating early, merge confidently before the lane ends.
Is the Canotek location easier than Ottawa Walkley? +
Test-takers often report the Canotek area (industrial east Ottawa with wider, quieter streets) as less stressful than Walkley Rd. That said, difficulty depends on the specific route and examiner, not just the location. Book at drivetest.ca.
What is the hardest part of the Ottawa Canotek G2 road test? +
Ogilvie Rd is a busy four-lane arterial with signals close together — maintain your speed and use the correct lane approach. Also practise parallel parking (within 30 cm of the curb) and 3-point turns on the residential streets nearby.
Does the Ottawa Canotek G road test use Hwy 417? +
The standard G test at Canotek typically includes a short run on Hwy 417 via Belfast Rd. As of late 2025 the G test is temporarily modified and highway driving is on hold — see the amber note in the G tab above for the current status.
Does Ottawa Canotek have Saturday service? +
No — the Canotek centre is open Monday to Friday only, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM. For Saturday road tests, check the Ottawa Walkley location at drivetest.ca.
