Saskatchewan SGI Knowledge Practice Test 2025 — Free

Saskatchewan's new-driver licensing is handled by SGI (Saskatchewan Government Insurance) through motor licence issuers across the province. To obtain a Class 7L Learner licence you must be at least 16 years old, pass a vision test, and pass the written knowledge exam. The fee is approximately $17. As a Class 7L driver you must maintain zero blood alcohol, drive only with a fully licenced supervisor, and may not drive between midnight and 6 a.m. After holding the Class 7L for six months you may apply for the Class 7 Novice road test. The Novice stage lasts an additional 12 months before you qualify for a full Class 5.

The SGI knowledge test contains 30 multiple-choice questions; you must answer at least 24 correctly (80%) to pass. There is one section covering both signs and rules — no separate threshold per section. Questions are taken from the Saskatchewan Driver's Handbook published by SGI. If you fail, you may retake the test the following business day. Results are given immediately at the motor licence issuer.

Saskatchewan has some distinct driving conditions that appear on the exam. The province's open prairie highways use a default speed limit of 100 km/h, but many rural grid roads are gravel and carry an 80 km/h maximum or lower. The rules section tests understanding of open-highway passing, the priority of emergency vehicles, winter conditions including blowing-snow whiteouts, and the province's unique approach to rural intersections without signs — in Saskatchewan, the vehicle on the right has the right-of-way. Wildlife on roadways, particularly deer and moose in the northern Shield regions, are also addressed.

LicenceReady's Saskatchewan SGI practice tests are structured around the official handbook. Target consistent 90%+ scores before visiting an SGI motor licence issuer. The Saskatchewan Driver's Handbook is available as a free PDF from the SGI website and covers all topics tested on the exam.
